The history of cooperative banking in India dates back to 1910. The cooperative banks have come into existence in the backdrop of widespread indebtedness of the farming community and with an objective of relieving agriculturists from the clutches of money lenders. The basic function of cooperative banks is to provide credit to agriculture. It is suggested in this work that there is a need for a thorough examination of cooperative banks in general and AP State Cooperative Bank in particular. Cooperative Banking In New Millennium provides a comprehensive coverage of aspects relating to the A.P. State Cooperative Bank such as financing issues, loan operations and recovery performance. The findings of the study offers some concrete suggestions to improve the existing functioning of the bank. These suggestions include effective supervision over-use of credit during the post-disbursement period, recovery through linking of credit with marketing, strengthening financial base through mobilisation of deposits by organising special campaigns and so on. The book will be of immense value to the students, researchers and policy makers in the area of cooperative banking..
